Where should a parent start?

There is a lot of information around for families, but where should you start?

As an educator where would you go to provide information to families? Or families do you know where to go to get up-to-date, reliable and helpful information?

 

Raising Children Network – the Australian Parenting Website – http://raisingchildren.net.au/

This website is an easily navigated website filled with all different kinds of information suited for children across all different age ranges. There are helpful videos, chat/forum features, articles, pictures, home safety guides and one of the most helpful aspects is the ‘my neighbourhood’. ‘My Neighbourhood’ is a program which takes your postcode and then allows you to pick from a list of services, and then provides you with the location of there services in your area. Overall this website is the best place to start for information and services.

Tresillian – http://www.tresillian.net/

Tresillian is an Australian organisation which gives information and advice to families for children in the early years. There are resources, tips and more. They also have help practical help available such as having day stays where the staff can help ‘hands on’. 

Karitane – http://www.karitane.com.au/

Karitane is an Australian organisation very similar to Tresillian with both helpful information, programs and services. There is information for families, professionals and has a list or services available.

The Department of Health and Ageing has helpful information which is researched and up to date. This information is usually more in depth and may be helpful in more difficult or uncommon situations relating to health predominantly.
